Background

Iddris Awal Suhuyini is a traditional dance instructor from Tamale, West Ghana, who teaches African dance, drumming, and performance.
Like most children in Ghana, Iddris had a challenging upbringing and was forced to drop out of junior secondary school due to his parents’ inability to afford his tuition.

His family hails from a clan of drummers that sings praises to rulers with the Lunga ( a traditional talking drum ),Iddris was privileged to grow up in a community where traditional drumming and dancing were practised on a regular basis.
Iddris used to adore dancing when he was little and will start to dance once he hears a beat. Drumming and dancing “brought him so much joy and happiness and made life in Tamale easy,” Iddris claimed. He said, “It’s not surprising that I became a teacher of the things I love because as a child I saw people come together to dance and listen to the drums which signifies unity.”

For Iddris, drumming and dancing are not only a form of expression but also a kind of therapy since they maintain a healthy soul, and those who learn these arts become content and in good health.

GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS

It is not surprising that he founded his dance business A-SUHUYINI CULTURAL EVENTS AND TOURISM in 2013 given his love and enthusiasm for drumming and dance.
In the school located within this cultural centre, students are taught how to play various drum instruments such as the Lunga (talking drum), gungug, Djembe drumming, fume fume, bamaya, jara, sinte, palongo, and Tora dance. Indeed, dancing makes people happy, and visitors from all over the world travel to Tamale to witness, learn about, and take part in this amazing event.

Since 2013, A-SUHUYINI CULTURAL EVENTS AND TOURISM has made it clear that passing down fundamental cultural values is the dance company’s primary objective, in addition to teaching dance and learning instruments.
Iddris is hoping for both international fame for the dance company and the ability to host tourists who come to see the ethnic dance group. Additionally, be capable of using various performances to impart cultural values and heritage to strangers.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Various children have been taught drumming, dance, and performing since the establishment of A-SUHUYINI CULTURAL EVENTS AND TOURISM.
Since 2013, Iddris has had the opportunity to teach hundreds of kids about Ghanaian cultural values and the Tamale people’s heritage. There are currently 21 youngsters in the dancing group, ages 4 to 15, and the organization is looking to expand its student body.

The company just bought a piece of property and plans to build classrooms, student housing, and tourist attractions on it. In addition to performing on various stages, the cultural ensemble has received invitations to perform at events such as Kumasi Independence Day and Accra’s National Farmers Day.
